Tennis Nutrition - Fueling Your Body For What Is To Come

As I found out, your tennis nutrition is a vital factor if you even want to think about becoming an elite tennis player!

Your nutrition is what is fueling your body when you go to train and when you go to train! So how do you fuel your body???

Create yourself a tennis diet!

Without having a diet you will find that you will start to lose concentration during games, you will start to burn out and you may end up risking seeing any results from any training you are considering to do!

So what should your tennis diet include????

  • Reduce sugar and caffeine based products - This will make your body dependant on these to keep you energized
  • Increase your protein intake - Increase muscle growth and repair levels
  • Increase the amount of fruit and veg - To convert starchy carbs into energy
  • Eat regularly - So that your body keeps properly fueled at all times
  • Drink a lot of water - So that you are hydrated and don't lose any performance
  • Increase your amount of sleep - Increase energy levels, alertness and reduces stress
Your tennis nutrition is vital if you want to think about becoming an elite player so create your tennis diet and become that elite tennis player!

Tennis Exercises - Increasing Your Strength and Power

Back in the day many people didn't bother doing any tennis exercises (these players would have been much weaker than our era of players) because they thought that by doing these exercises they would ruin their game. However, soon people gave it a shot and they became stronger and more powerful! Then everyone else had to do these tennis exercises so that they could keep up with the new competition! This led to these exercises being an ESSENTIAL part of tennis training.

I looked into these exercises to see which ones to include into my tennis training schedule. I composed the schedule to have 3 exercises which I would repeat back to back 5 times (rest 20 seconds after each 3). One workout I used with the tennis exercises was.....

  1. Step Jump
  • Start on one side of a step/box/low barrier
  • Jump over to the other side
  • Keep going for 30 seconds
  • Move onto the next exercise
      2. Squat Jump
  • Start in a standing position
  • Squat down
  • When you reach the bottom of your squat explode (jump) up with your hands straight in the air
  • When you land repeat from the standing position
  • Repeat this 15-20 times
      3. Explosive Press-ups
  • Start in the press-up position
  • Do a press-up
  • Just before you straighten your arms fully push up so that you hands slightly come off the floor
  • As soon as you hit the ground go straight into a press-up and repeat
  • Repeat this process 15-20 times
This was just 1 of the many workout I had (to make sure that my body didn't get used to them.

When you're planning yours make sure that you only use the workout 3-4 times a week!

If you were like me starting to use tennis exercises is going to be tough especially if you don't have the right tennis nutrition to fuel your body!

Tennis Fitness Drills - Sending Your Fitness Levels Through The Roof!

Tennis fitness drills - the best way to increase your fitness levels. These drills were specifically created to increase your fitness levels for tennis!

To become an elite tennis player you had to create a training schedule and one of the things that I made sure to include in mine were tennis fitness drills. These drills would help me achieve the level of fitness that would help me WIN games!

What sort of drills are there?

There are a load of tennis fitness drills out there and each one has its own purpose in tennis. Three of my favourite I have listed below....

  1. Line Jumps - Improves your ability to change direction
  • Set up a long line on the ground (you can use a skipping rope/rope/even a tennis/football court line)
  • Stand on one side of the line and jump sideways over to the other side
  • Now jump slightly forward to the other side of the line
  • Keep doing this down the line for 30 seconds
     2. Sprint stops - Improves your speed and ability to change direction
  • Set up two cones 10 yards apart
  • Starting from one cone sprint as fast as you can to the other cone
  • When you reach that cones STOP as quickly as you can
  • Repeat
     3.  Burpees - Improves your vertical leap, cardio and power
  • Start in a standing up position
  • Drop down into a press-up position
  • Do a press-up
  • Bring your knees up to your stomach (fast)

Tennis Fitness - Making You That Frustrating Opponent!

Have you ever played that frustrating opponent? That opponent who could hit anything you threw at them regardless of where you aimed it on the court? This is the opponent I wanted to be and the way I was going to do it was simple - tennis fitness!

By improving my fitness levels I would be able to run faster, last longer, change direction quicker, jump higher and explode into different directions. These benefits of a higher fitness level are exactly what I needed to become a threat on the tennis court - to become that frustrating opponent!

My Journey To Becoming An Elite Tennis Player!

With determination though I managed to learn how to serve in tennis properly, how to get the correct mindset with tennis mental tips and also how to get rid of frustrating injuries with tennis elbow home cures.

As a beginner it was great having mastered all these but soon I had to move up to a new level of competition and I was completely trashed!

The new competition were all stronger and fitter than I was and I realised that I still had one more part of my journey to go through - becoming an elite tennis player!
